About

I was born in Hertfordshire and in my teens my family moved to the south coast. I worked as a senior manager in the electrical manufacturing industry for many years when my interest in photography blossomed in my spare time and when the site was closed opened my own photographic studio working in wedding and portrait photography. In those days prior to digital I shot my work on a Bronica 6×6 format. An excellent camera that was completely manual so the use of light meters and an appreciation of light was totally essential. No auto exposure or auto focus and as roll film and processing was at a premium price every shot had to be correct. This was even more so on wedding photography as there was only one chance to get the shot. As the recession began to bite in the early 1990s we ( that is my wife and I ) diversified the business to include wedding dresses and all that is entailed with it. We let the portrait side of the business fade out and concentrated on the bridal wear and wedding photography which became very successful.
During that time I qualified with both the “Master Photographers Association” and with the “British Institute of Professional Photographers” in portrait and wedding photography and won several Kodak awards.
One of the requirements of our business was to travel to trade exhibitions in the north of England, some where I frankly would not have considered visiting. It was always portrayed in the press as dull and miserable place and being nothing more than old mill towns and mining areas and any images were of back streets and people being generally considered far less fortunate than those in the south. What was rarely shown was the beauty of the area with its sweeping landscapes, mountains and rivers and beautiful coast lines. It was a visit to Cumbria and the Lake District during one of our exhibition visits that my interest in landscape photography became awakened.
We had built up a very successful business to the point where we were fortunate enough to retire from the hustle and bustle of business life and move to the north of England. This has provided us with a wonderful opportunity to explore and photograph many beautiful places in the north of England from the west coast to the east coast and to also visit Scotland several times.I never fail to be fascinated by the beauty of the north of England and the changing seasons and light can make the same place look entirely different from one day to another.
I capture my images on a Nikon D200..having a D100 as a back up body and have several lens’s,those being an 24 – 85mm, a 10 – 20mm wide angle and a 70 – 300mm zoom. I process my work through Adobe CS3.
